Space Tree the space tree... IN SPACE! is a webtoon written, voiced, and animated in Adobe Flash by Ed Atlin. It was launched in October 4, 2004 as part of Keentoons, Keenspot's foray into online animation. It had formerly been on Newgrounds. It used to be updated once a week, normally on Thursday, but it's currently updated once or twice per month.
The show, which relies heavily on absurdist humor, follows the adventures of a large anthropomorphized tree and a host of other strange characters in space. Episodes are often unconnected, with non sequitur endings that are impossible to fit into any coherent whole; but sometimes extended plotlines will develop.

Main
- Space Tree - The twenty-something anthropomorphized tree the webtoon is named after. He is said to have a stereotypical Italian-American accent, even though he doesn't. He has a stylized "ST" underlined on his trunk, right above his mouth, and a blue spaceship with two white stripes on it, which is where most of the episodes take place. Space Tree is a space capitan, or at least finishing up his training to become one. As a final step, he has to train Commander X to the proper intelligence level to become a space admiral. This process usually takes only a few weeks but Space Tree has been teaching the commander for 5 years in counting. Most of his classes seem very easy, typically being about triangles. After a recent loss in the Space Tree family, he also acquired two million pizzolas and bought the local Captain's Club. However, due to a loophole in the contract, the club is now reowned by its original managers, the Christophers, when they lost a game of Russian Roulette. After an experience in which Space Tree thought he was going to die, he became a very generous tree when he learned he wasn't, working full-time in helping those less fortunate than himself.
- Commander Uderick Michelle Xander - The character that seems most in control of events on the ship, he has had several schemes, from dressing up Space Tree in women's clothes so that he could get a free drink, to selling Space Trees remains in action figure form, covered in what looks like toxic ooze, along with a "not on fire pen". He was assigned to Space Tree during the last stage of his (Space Tree's) training to become a space captain, the training consisted in helping the commander in HIS training towards becoming a space admiral. The commander however was too stupid to finish the training, and being stuck with Space Tree after his parents cut off his credit cards he has now lived with Space Tree for 4 years. Another event the Commander was involved with was the cheering of Space Tree, but due to either confusion or preference, he dressed as a girl in a cheerleaders outfit.
- Allon Amanolla - The chubby cap-wearing, alien of the ship. He and Commander are always trying to pull something over on Space Tree, often ending in embarrassment. He's the constant target for jokes, insults, and torments, his arms often getting torn off, but always grow back, displaying some form of regenerative ability. After Space Tree throws the prototype Space Tree action figure out the window and he, Allon, and the Commander go searching for it, Allon is shot in the general chest area by Professor Clerman and one of his clones. Space Tree and the Commander were both protected by carrying a ball-point pen in their front pockets, deflecting the bullets, though Allon didn't have a pen and is left for dead on the planet with Prof. Clerman posing as him. After a while, he came back, having been renamed 'Palondromio' and joined Pink Frosting 88 and Mee in 'the greatest crime trio in all of the land', only to be replaced by Reginald after the Freely McWheely incident. He is currently residing in the air ducts of Space Tree's ship and is occasionally still contacted by the greatest crime trio in the land for missions. Though younger than the Commander, Allon has a blatantly (to the viewers) fake ID named "Alvin the Chimp," which states that he is whatever the legal age is, possibly male, and green.
- Meelord Marone - Full name Meelord "The Marone Mongoose" Marone, but known mostly as Mee or "Mario Van Peebles" as it states on his fake ID. He attended high school with Space Tree, and appears without warning, asking for a favor, or taking what he wants. He has the ability to make portals out of nothing, and uses this ability to jump from place to place. He also has an impossibly curvy spine with light cyan-green hair, a golden medallion, and logic that no one can argue with. His former partner, Pinkfrosting88 kicked him off of the Reginalds, the lands greatest crime trio, because of his failing superpowers. He has since both lost his portal-making ability and grew a sentient beard, which he shaved off, made a shady deal with, then shot dead. While in high school, he took a mongoose class which gave him the ability to turn into a giant cyan-green mongoose, though this makes him vulnerable to shotgun blasts to the chest among several other weaknesses. He seems to now earn his keep on Space Tree's ship by acting as the ship's "doctor," though he's admitted to not being qualified for it and actually having no medical knowhow at all. In episode 44, he stayed on the ship instead of searching the Clerman Clone's planet with Space Tree because he said he needed to check his thetan levels. Later in the episode, he's seen auditing with an e-meter, meaning he may be a scientologist.

Secondary
- Pinkfrosting88 Known only by her screenname (and her "pet" screenname, PF88), Pinkfrosting88 posed as the Commander's girlfriend until she could steal his green, moth-like spaceship. She originally had a deep man-like voice; after a while, Space Tree asked her for a favor, and during the conversation, her voice changed so that it was more feminine. She appears mostly human in appearance, though her face is somewhat distorted and she has green tentacles for arms and legs. Space Tree and Mee enlisted her help in breaking the Commander and Allon out of prison as she's the only one they know with a ship powerful enough to break a hole in the prison's walls. She only really helped them because she planned to kidnap Allon and hold him for ransom after she was told his family is rich. Later, she forms 'the greatest crime trio in the land' along with Mee and Allon, whom she becomes somewhat attached to. Soon later, Allon was replaced in the trio by Reginald. Pinkfrosting88 seems to have an obsession with superpowers, always hunting for new objects reputed to give them. After Mee lost his ability to make portals, Pinkfrosting88 kicked him out of the trio, which is now a duo consisting of her and Reginald.
- SpeshDiv Robot - Even though he plays many roles, he is still one character. So far, he has been a delivery man, Space Tree's high school teacher, a security guard for prison, a judge, a policeman, a Space Cap-i-tan trainer, a space ship salesman, and a priest. You can tell it is him because he has a very distinctive tinny voice, though it's been revealed that he only puts on this voice for show.
- Freely McWheely - Aside from avoiding assassination attempts from a three eyed man named "Wayne", he is the President of Space. There was some confusion prior to his debut about his status of life, but it was confirmed that he was, in fact, not dead. He is "a giant crocodile-lookin' thing" opposed to trees of any kind, and those who try to save them. Or, in his own words "I'm the kind of Space president who doesn't waste his Space time saving Space trees from space!" It has been revealed that his intense hatred of trees is because he, himself, is part tree and his mother made him look like he is. Freely McWheely appeared to be unwittingly killed when Allon opened a secret door in his office, thus impaling him, though he was later revealed to be only seriously injured.
- Professor Clerman - Clerman used to be on the TV show, "The Clerman Clones", along with 5 other clones of himself (hence the name), but, after some circumstances, he and the other clones ended up stranded on a deserted planet. After Space Tree's ship crash-landed on that planet he snuck aboard because, in his own words, he couldn't stand "being stuck on a planet with 5 clones of myself and only being able to watch the show that I'm in." He attempted to pose as Allon, wearing Allon's distinctive cap and a card that said "I am Allon", but only the Commander bought his story for any length of time. He narrowly avoided being caught on a few occasions, and after the real Allon came back as Meelord's henchman, Clerman had to leave. Before he left, he hired Reginald (see below) to possess Space Tree while he stole all his money to fund a new Clerman Clones DVD, which he claimed was his plan all along.
- November - An actress who was in "The Clerman Clones" along with Professor Clerman and his clones, until its 4th episode in which one of them breaks her neck, November is an obvious parody of April, just as The Clerman Clones is a parody of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She looks almost exactly like April, down to her clothes (a yellow bodysuit) and occupation (a news reporter). On the 4th episode, she sets up a fake trap as a joke for the clones, but this angers one of them so much that he snaps her neck with little/no remorse.
- Forescore Jones - A "Hunter... of the UNDEAD". Forescore Jones is a large blue man with a burning hatred of the undead and a liking for shooting people with his tranquilizer gun for no reason. After Space Tree's resurrection, Forescore Jones came to monitor him for any sign of undead behavior. When he couldn't find any reason to arrest him after a week, he left the ship and allowed Space Tree to escape. Since then, he has shown himself to be a big public figure: he has his own COPS-like show, is the anchor for a news program called ZAP (Zombie Action Patrol), and was referred to as one of the 'universe's top detectives'.
- Ghost Spider - A spider that might be a ghost. He lived in the spaceship of Space Tree until he got kicked by out by Space Tree in episode 11 (Out of Space) and moved into his summer home, which just so happened to be right next to the ship. Calling himself a superhero, Space Tree is jealous and hates him, although the Commander really likes him. The Commander called Ghost Spider his liege in episode 36. In episode 36 he returns to get his towel back and Space Tree seems to have plans to kill or kick him. He gave Space Tree a pair of feet and socks and since then Space Tree hates him even more. Ghost Spider was one of the guests at Space Tree's pre-death funeral, but Space Tree's only wishes for him to 'get the hell off his ship' to which he complies. In episode 48 he attends the commander & stem's wedding
- Reginald - An odd ghost with the power to possess others (but only once safely, being possessed a second time kills the subject, which Reginald typically doesn't want), possibly among other superpowers. He appears to be a white floating head with an afro and goatee, both blue. He has a deep African-American voice. A very shady character, Reginald first appeared when he was hired by Professor Clerman to possess Space Tree while Clerman stole Space Tree's riches to fund a DVD of his old show, the Clerman Clones. Since then, he has joined Mee and xxPinkfrosting88xx in 'the greatest crime trio of the land'. He has since acquired a body and started living on Space Tree's new ship from which he hosts his own talkshow.
- The Christophers - A pair of conjoined twins, both named Christopher though called Christopher One and Christopher Two respectively. Christopher One has blue hair and Christopher Two has green, though both of them have the same forward-combed hairstyle with side burns. They wear a striped, maroon bodysuit in the style fashionable in the ST universe but with two holes for their heads. They were and are the current owner's of the local Capitan's Club. Though both of them have separate personalities (and intellects) for the most part, they're both very stuck up and often are seen carrying wine glasses. In the Space Tree world, Christmas is named after the birth of the Christophers, known together as 'the Christ' (pronounced 'krist' instead of 'kryst'). Christopher 2 has been gravely sick for awhile now to the point of not even being conscious though his brother is perfectly fine. He (Christopher 2) occasional whispers gibberish in his sleep, although Space Tree can understand it as it seems to be not gibberish but an ancient tree language.
- Broom - Just a broom that was in the new ship the Commander bought. Apparently, brooms are thought to be people and are stereotyped as being unscrupulous as the Commander is very angry that the broom came with the ship. Though he says he has nothing against them, he wants Space Tree to stay the night, just in case. Space Tree rejects this so Allon stays instead, but not without some hesitation on his part when he hears about the broom being there. They watch a news broadcast about Freely McWheely's mysterious impalement and, during it, the anchorman says no one knows who, or what, caused it while a silhouette of a broom with question marks around it appears in the corner of the screen. Allon is later stabbed through the stomach with the broom by the Commander.
[edit]
Supporting Characters
- Alien - An alien that lives in the air ducts of Space Tree's ship. His 'house' has a small table and chairs in it and he's often seen playing cards with others. His voice is very hoarse, though he only says a few words at a time. He says he likes to eat children while they're asleep. Initially, the only thing he could say was "Probably".
- Unknown - A tiny dark brown person who appears to be insane. He wears a dark red top hat, a purple jumpsuit, and a belt that says "RN" on it. He pops up in various places and times, often saying or doing something quickly before leaving, such as killing Genaleesha then himself, spreading a 'milkshakes are made from trees' hoax, or simply asking "Are you ready to rock?!"
- Genaleesha - Space Tree's artificial girlfriend. Genaleesha is a frankenstein-like patchwork creature that Space Tree adores but the Commander finds grotesque. She only speaks gibberish though Space Tree seems to understand her. When Space Tree took her to the capitan's club, he introduced her as his fiancé to the Christophers. Both seemed impressed with her, though they may have been sarcastic. When she went on the club's stage to sing a song to Space Tree, she only got through three lines before being shot dead by the rock guy, who then shot himself. Space Tree admits he built Genaleesha from parts he found lying around his ship.
- Talking Eye - After Meelord Marone broke the Commander's x-ray vision eye, he decided to get a replacement with heat vision, but after a talk with Space Tree he decides to get a talking eye instead. This eye, however, decides not to stay with the Commander, saying 'y'all are crazy, I'm getting my round ass out of here!' before hopping out of the Commander's socket and slowly crawling away.
- Snitch - A rodent-like person who wanders around on the ship, often talking to himself in a confused voice, not knowing where he is. He's clearly alien in appearance, with a long snout and giant mole on the back of his head which has another face on it. He also complains that his liver hurts when he's stepped on the head by the Commander. He wears horn-rimmed glasses, an olive jumpsuit, red gloves and baseball cap, and two belts, one fitted around his chest. He is voiced by Stephen Frizzle
- Friend of Space Tree's - A human that Space Tree knows but not too well. The friend is balding, but with spikey orange/red hair on the back of his head, and has a porcine nose and dimpled chin. He wears glasses with red frames and a blue shirt. His expression is often very calm and mellow, his arms crossed and eyelids drooping slightly. Not much is known about him due to his very limited screentime, though he once had a swastika drawn on his forehead and was smoking a cigarette making him the first smoking neo-Nazi in space. At Space Tree's funeral, the swastika was gone and in its place was a slightly discolored patch of skin.
- Space Warden - The warden of the prison. He's a light purple, four-armed alien who wears a wrestling outfit that includes a mask tied around his eyes. He speaks with a very happy voice and manner, the worst thing he said when he's angry being 'well, gosh darn it, son of a gun, heck'. He seems to not mind, and even enjoy, the execution of inmates but also likes to give away candycanes for jobs well done. He works part time at the homeless shelter to help the less fortunate.
- The Stem - A self-proclaimed super hero that looks like a giant potted flower. There's some confusion surrounding the Stem's gender, though he's probably male due to both his gruff voice and desire to marry the Commander in a dress. Space Tree once fought the Stem but easily lost to him as the Stem's pot is able to grow giant hydraulic legs which he uses to kick people with. The Stem seems to be at least mildly religious, although the only detail known about his religion is that it prohibits brides and grooms from seeing each other between their engagement and their wedding ceremony.
- Kidnapper - A four-nippled, sweaty, wife-beater-wearing, mustached, unibrow-having, purple pig man whose only occupation seems to be kidnapping people. The first person he kidnapped on the show was the Commander, however, the kidnapping scheme was foiled when Space Tree used the Kidnapper's one and only weakness: being lied to. The second kidnapping was of Allon, when the Kidnapper mistook him for an unremovable tumor. The Kidnapper committed suicide by shooting himself in the mouth, because it was the only thing he could think of to do with the bullet in his revolver.
- Philip Seymour Horseman - A famous movie star in the Space Tree universe and the host of Space Tree bloopers and deleted scenes. Phil acknowledges the Space Tree cartoon as just that; 'some internet cartoon,' breaking the 4th wall. However, in the same episode, Mee states that 'This isn't a cartoon. This is real life.' and hopes that one day, we'll be able to accept that.
- Cloudface - When Pinkfrosting used her uncontrollable new teleportation powers in anger, she accidentally teleported herself, Reginald, Allen, and the Commander's legs to "Cloud Land," a place where everything is entirely made of clouds. There, they met Cloudface, a jolly inhabitant of Cloud Land made of pink clouds. He also has two antennae on his head and wears a yellow turtleneck with a cloud on its front. The group spends 1 week in Cloud Land, where Allen receives a 100% recycled pair of cloud pants and Pinkfrosting88 enjoys the best cloud salad she ever tasted. Despite these events, the group say they must leave the bigotted community of Cloud Land, hoping to return one day. This is not enough for Cloud Face who reveals, at the last minute, that he's not always so jolly by saying "Fuck you then , suck my fat cloudly dick!!"
- Tahoma Fresh - The news reporter for Chanelle J news, Tahoma is presumably Mee's girlfriend. Her hated rival is none other than Raphael Tarbomb of Channel K news.
