I don't know anything about wiki bots, so my question is, can other people control it? And can it detect and revert vandalism (look for certain words)

No you can't control it. The robot is just a couple pf python scripts running on my computer. To control it, you need the scripts on your computer and the password of the robot account (or you could set up your own account). How setting up the bot works it explained on this page and it's actually kind of easy. There are a couple of scripts included that can: replace words in several articles, rename/add/delete categories and templates, check spelling and external links, repair double redirects and batch upload images.
I haven't found a reverting script so far. But on the other hand, python (the language the scripts are written in) doesn't seem so hard to learn, so I'll probably try to write scripts myself someday.
